Hughes, 91, died at his home at 900 Ridge Avenue this morning at 2:15 o'clock. He would have been 92 on May 18 of this year. Born in Blairsville, the son of Dr. J. W. Hughes and Anna Torrance Hughes, the family moved to Latrobe where his father practiced medicine. Mr. Hughes graduated in law at the University of Michigan in 1896 and was admitted to the bar. He was in the insurance business in Latrobe for more than 60 years and was active in all civic works. He helped organize the Vanadium Alloys Steel Co., Latrobe Steel Co.. Vulcan Mold and Iron Co. and the Latrobe Tool Co. now called the United Drill and Tool in Chicago and Detroit. In addition, Mr. Hughes was a director of the Latrobe Building and Loan Assoc. for 50 years and a director in several banks including Mellon National Bank and Trust Company. He was a former burgess of Latrobe and a member of the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge and other organizations. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Helen Saxman Hughes, a brother, John J. of Latrobe, and two sisters, Mrs. William E. Brewster of Chicago and Mrs. Charles E. Corson of Oakmont. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at his late home until 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Services will be conducted at Unity Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday in charge of the Rev. Robert Vogelsang. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery.
