He had been in the home about three years. Prior to his going to the home he was a resident of Bradenville for many years. His father, Isaac Hughes, was one of the pioneer residents of Saltsburg, when that section was first opened. Alexander Hughes was born and raised in that section. He came to Bradenville about 25 years ago. About seven years ago, Mr. Hughes' wife died, and later, on account of the infirmities of age, he entered the Soldier's Home. He had fought valiantly through the Civil War in defense of the Union and held membership in the Latrobe Post of the G. A. R. Mr. Hughes would have been 77 years of age in June. He is survived by the following children: William I., of New Alexandria; Otis N., of Bradenville; Lewis C., of South Fork; Mrs. W. M. Hart and Mrs. S. C. Morrow of Wayne; Mrs. H. W. Phillippi and Mrs. James H. Caldwell, of Derry. There are a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren surviving. Two sisters, Mrs. R. J. Hoffman and Mrs. Carrie McGeary of New Alexandria, also survive. The body will be taken to the home of Mrs. Caldwell, of Derry. The remains are expected to arrive tomorrow.
