Huhn, 84, of Latrobe, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, in the Mountain View Specialty Care Center, Unity Township. He was born May 24, 1920, in Uniontown, a son of the late Homer and Nellie Hostetler Huhn. Prior to retirement, Herman was employed by the ITE/Brown Bovarian Co. of South Greensburg. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 132nd Infantry Americal Division with a rank of staff sergeant. Herman was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal and was awarded the Silver Star. He was a member of Saint James Evangelical Lutheran Church of Youngstown, served as a Sunday school teacher for the church, served on church council and was a Cub Scout Leader of the church. Herman was a member of the American Legion Post #515 of Latrobe and the Disabled American Veterans of Greensburg. In 1995, the annual Norvelt Homesteaders Reunion was started in Herman's honor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Homer Huhn Jr.; and a sister, Ruth Mertz. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary L. Marks Huhn; two daughters, Joyce Weaver, of Morgantown, W.V., and Doris Jean Weaver and husband, William, of Norvelt; a son, Roy Huhn and wife, Sharon, of Greensburg; seven grandchildren, Wayne Weaver and wife, DeAnn, Kim Robertson and husband, Ken, Renee Steiner and husband, Clint, Nicole Weaver, Joshua, Zachary and Nicholas Huhn; seven great-grandchildren, Kenny, Shane, David and Kimberly Robertson, Olivia and Arabella Weaver and Morgan Steiner; three sisters, Ella Mae Tepper and husband, Tom, of Latrobe, Mabel Watson and husband, Charles, of Toms River, N.J., and Roberta Elleard of Richmond, Va.; a sister-in-law, Josephine Huhn, of Latrobe: and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, beginning Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor David P. von Schlichten officiating. Interment with military rights, accorded by Pleasant Unity VFW #8643 and American Legion Post 982, will follow in St. James Cemetery, Youngstown.
