"R.J." Huhn, 79, a resident of Greensburg Care Center, formerly of Saltsburg and Smithfield, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, following a short illness. He was born July 25, 1926, in Smithfield, a son of the late Harland (Polly) Huhn and Bertha E. Burchinal Huhn. A former member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Smithfield, he was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. Ross "Peanuts," as he was known, was a graduate of Bethany College and was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 32 years as a materials engineer. Commissioner Ross Huhn was first appointed a member of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission by then Gov. Richard Thornburgh on June 17, 1980. He was active in many sportsmen's groups and had devoted many years to the conservation of Pennsylvania's natural resources. He also was a member of Trout Unlimited, Izaak Walton League of America and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. He was instrumental in the organization of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, where he was a charter member and a member of the hall of fame. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Seaton Huhn. He is survived by his sister, Jane Huhn Farren and husband, Eugene, of Johnstown; nephews, Gary and Larry Farren and Ted Huhn, and niece, Holly Huhn Crane. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and until the 11 a.m. service Thursday in John F. Brownfield Funeral Home of Smithfield, 78 Main St., with the Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield.
