Marie J. Hvizdos, 82, of Youngstown, died peacefully at her home Wednesday,
April 24, 2002. She was born May 13, 1919, in Hostetter, a daughter of the late
Stephen A. and Mary (Klimchock) Pevarnik. Prior to her retirement in 1988, she
was employed as a secretary for the Greater Latrobe School District, with over
27 years of service. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church
of Youngstown and the church's Rosary Altar Society. She was also a member of
the St. Vincent Women's Auxiliary and the Public School Employees Retirees
Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, John J. Hvizdos; two brothers, Stephen and Louis Pevarnik; and a
sister, Dorothy Gilbert. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Mary Ann Hvizdos
of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Joseph and wife, Bernadette, James and Gervase
``Jerry' and wife, Nancy Pevarnik, all of Latrobe; two sisters, Ann Markovich
and husband, John, and Cecilia Harr, both of Latrobe; good family friends,
Roseland and Shawn Banium of Pittsburgh; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500
Ligonier St., Latrobe, Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated
Saturday at 11 a.m. in the St. Cecilia Roman Catholic Church, (her church of
origin), Whitney, with the Rev. Chad Ficorilli as celebrant. Interment will
follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. A parish rosary will be recited
Friday at 1:45 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to
the Carmelite Monastery, RD6, Box 28, Center Drive, Latrobe, PA 15650 or to the
Mercy Hospital Child Development Center, 1400 Locust St., Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
