B. Kuhn, formerly a well-known and highly respected citizen of this place but later a resident of Cumberland, Md., had drowned while on a fishing excursion. Mr. Kuhn was raised in Latrobe, and for many years was one of our leading business men, he being engaged in the drug business. For several years prior to his departure he filled the position of clerk in D. C. George's drug store. The particulars of Mr. Kuhn are not generally known, and the following from the Cumberland Daily Times, of October 30th, will be read with interest: Again was our community shocked by the sad and startling intelligence received here last evening, about 10 o'clock, that George B. Kuhn, brother of A. J. Kuhn, of the St. Nicholas Hotel, had been drowned in the canal at Newtown. The deceased, in company with Prof. G. R. Daisyy, G. H. Gilpin, William Walker, and T. L. Coulehan, Jr., left here yesterday morning on a fishing trip down the canal on the steamer "Endeavor." Nothing was beard of them until A. J. Kuhn received, about 10 o'clock last night, a telegram from Messr’s Gilpin and Daisy stating that Geo. Kuhn had fallen in the canal and been drowned and asking what they should do. Mr. Kuhn immediately telegraphed them to bring the remains up on the boat, which was done, arriving here about nine o'clock this morning… The news of his drowning spread rapidly here, where during his residence of a little over a year he has made many friends by his genial temperament and gentlemanly manners. He was stout of person, full of life and health, and it was hard for his friends to realize that he who had left them early yesterday morning on a trip of pleasure was to be brought back this morning a corpse. The sad intelligence was telegraphed to his wife, who left about two weeks ago for Baltimore, where, with her five children, she is visiting her father, and to the aged mother, who is residing at Latrobe, Pa., upon whom the blow will fall heavily and with whom George was a favorite. The deceased was a native of Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and was 33 years of age. He was, for many years, engaged in the drug business in that town, and came from there to this place about one year ago. The sorrowing relatives will have the sympathy of the entire community in their sudden affliction. The funeral services over the remains of Mr. Kuhn were held at St. Patrick's Church, Cumberland, Saturday morning at 7 o'clock, after which they were taken to Baltimore and interred at Bonnie Brae Cemetery, in that city.
