While at work drawing ribs or "stumps" a mass of roof fell and Kuhns was crushed beneath tons of rock and slate. Mr. Mayhew was also struck by the mass and injured. When Kuhns' body was found beneath the mass it was crushed almost flat. James Kuhns, aged 19 years and 5 months, was left fatherless almost 15 years ago. He leaves a mother, two sisters and two brothers and many relatives to mourn his untimely death. After the death of his father, his grandmother, Rachel Kuhns, took him to her heart and home who taught him the way of life. Under her influence she had him baptized and join M. P. church at Solomon's Temple. After his grandmothers death some six years ago, he had a home with his uncle, Henry Kuhns, and with his cousin, Mrs. Samuel Keltz. He left his homes to work in the mine where he met his untimely death on Friday, Feb. 2, at 12 m. Funeral services were held in the Youngstown M. E. church, Rev. W. F. Hunter officiating, on last Sunday afternoon.
