Lenz, 73, of Derry, formerly of Latrobe, died Monday, Nov. 14, 1994, at his home. He was born April 7, 1921, in Truxal, Pa., a son of the late Frederick O. Sr. and Marie McCallen Lenz. He was a retired lieutenant from the Latrobe Police Department. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of American Legion Post 515 of Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sophie "Ginger" Dyorich Lenz; a son, Jerry L. Hewitt; a brother, Frederick O. Lenz Jr.; and a sister, Ruth L Harkleroad. He Is survived by six sons: Joseph Leppado of Florida, Jay Hewitt of Boyers, James Hewitt of Manassas, Va., Richard Lenz of New Derry, Randall Lenz of Annandale, Va., and Donald W. Lenz of Latrobe; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Karen) Herdman of Derry and Mrs. Burton (Jackie) Barchesky of Springfield, Va.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the John J. Lopatich Funeral Home Inc., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Rick Dettling officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Unity Township. Military service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
