He was born March 30, 1906, in Unity Township, a son of the late Calvin and Mary Hughes Marks. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Latrobe Steel Co. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the 617th Quartermaster Depot Company in the United States Army. He was a square dance caller for the Curly Marks Orchestra and was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Latrobe, where he served as head usher. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerle No. 01188 of Latrobe, the DAV Commanders Club and the National Wildlife Federation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret E. McCracken Marks; a brother, George Marks; two sisters, Margaret Lentz and Daisy Gibson; and a grand-daughter, Lynn Ann Cawoski. He is survived by three sons, John O. Jr. and Ralph E., both of Latrobe, and Richard H. Marks of Bolivar; two daughters, Mrs. James (Shirley) Moretti of RD 5, Latrobe, and Mrs. Thomas (Elaine) Cawoski of RD 6, Latrobe; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Estella Forsha of RD 5, Latrobe, and Mrs. William (Nina) King of RD 4, Latrobe; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mary Emert. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 pm Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Sunday at the Hartman-Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Service will be celebrated at 11 am Monday in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. William E. Ordelt Jr officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Cook Township.
