He was born Dec. 12, 1917, in Wilpen, a son of the late John and Mary (Beucha) Matrunics. He was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America and a member of St. John the Baptist Eastern Orthodox Church of Wilpen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ethel M. Sobota Matrunics; a son, George; a daughter, Darlene; two brothers, Mike and Paul, and two sisters, Mary Valasko and Anna Uncapher. Surviving are three daughters, Gloria Jean Lukatch of Latrobe RD 1, Kathleen Cicchitello of Derry and Nancy Yingling of New Enterprise; a son, George S. Jr. of Darlington; a brother, John Jr. of Latrobe; a sister, Margaret Palek of Wilpen; 12 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in John J. Lopatich Funeral Home Inc., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Miklos officiating. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Eastern Orthodox Cemetery, Wilpen. Parastas service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
