R. R. Flagman Is Crashed to Death Beneath the Remorseless Wheels. At an early hour Saturday morning last, the yard of the Pennsylvania Railroad at Derry station was the scene of another horrible accident, by which the company loses a trusty employee and a family is bereft of a kind and loving husband and indulgent father. The victim of the accident was Wm. Mears, formerly of Youngstown, but of late years a resident of Derry. He was a flagman, running on a freight. The accident happened about 4 o’clock in the morning. His train had just got in, and the crew was about through with the work. Mr. Mears was standing on the front end of the rear car when the train was being shoved down. He asked another employee whether the track was clear, and in turning fell to the rails, the truck of the next car passing over the middle of his body and killing him instantly. He leaves a wife and three children to mourn his death. Mr. Mears was a soldier in the rebellion, and a member of Post 4, G. A. R., of Latrobe. He was buried at Youngstown, Sunday last, with the honors of war, by a delegation of his comrades from Post No. 4.
