James E. Mekic, 61, of Latrobe RD 3 (Marguerite) died Thursday, May 31, 1990, in
Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Youngstown, a son of the
late John and Frances Darnisa Mekic. Prior to his retirement, he was an employee
of Vulcan Mold and Iron Co. of Latrobe. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic
Church of Marguerite, the Marguerite Volunteer Fire Department and the
Westmoreland County Firemen's Association. He was a veteran of World War II.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Thomas,
Jasper (his twin) and Robert. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Mervay Mekic;
two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Donna) Todd of Latrobe RD 4 and Mrs. Gary (Linda)
Long of Greensburg; three sons, James R. and Gerald L., both of Latrobe RD 3,
and Ronald E. of Whitney; a sister, Mrs. John (Frances) Kozar of Youngstown;
four brothers, Herman and Raymond, both of Brenizer, Arthur and Henry, both of
Youngstown, and nine grandchildren. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m.
Saturday and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in James P. Gaut Funeral Home Inc.,
Pleasant Unity. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St.
Benedict Catholic Church with the Rev. Joachim R. Fatora, OSB, as celebrant.
Entombment will be held in Westmoreland County Memorial Park Mausoleum,
Hempfield Township. Parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday in the
funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Benedict Catholic Church, Greensburg
RD 8.
