Mrs. Edna Shirey Mershon, 98, of Youngstown died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1986, in
Edgewood Nursing Center, Youngstown. Born Oct. 4, 1888, in Unity Township, she
was a daughter of the late George and Laura Smith Shirey. She was the oldest
living member of St. James Lutheran Church, Youngstown. In addition to her
parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar A. Mershon; two
sisters, Nellie Shirey and Kathryn Adams, and one brother, Wilber Shirey. She is
survived by one daughter, Mrs. Harrold (Virginia) White of Sarasota, Fla.; three
sisters, Pauline Harr of Pleasant Unity, Mrs. Ben (Mabel) Musick of Latrobe RD 1
and Ruth Hauser of Youngstown, and one brother, Jacob Shirey of Latrobe. Friends
will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in James P. Gaut Funeral
Home Inc., Pleasant Unity. Funeral service, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in
the funeral home with the Rev. Philip N. Gustafson officiating. Interment will
follow in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Youngstown.
