Piper, 73, of Latrobe RD 4, died Thursday, May 24, 1984, of injuries received when struck by a falling tree. He was born Nov. 16, 1910, in Cook Township, a son of the late Cleveland and Edna Cole Piper. A self-employed lumberman for more than 60 years, he was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Irvin, and two sisters, Wanda Jean Grote and Emma Lenhart. he is survived by his wife, Mary Weaver Piper; 13 children, Mrs. Howard (Helen) Scanlon, Richard, Cleveland, Paul, Bruce, Merle, and Mrs. Ronald (Mary Ann) Heming, all of Latrobe RD 4, Mrs. James (Audrey) Terra of Ketchum, Idaho, Mrs. Raul (Edna) Morales of San Lorenzo, Calif., Mrs. Richard (Diana) Jones of Stahlstown, Mrs. Eytan (Rosemary) Pick of Carmel, Calif., Dennis of Greensburg and Mrs. James (Karen) Olczak of Youngstown; 40 grandchildren; five brothers, William, Carl, Ray, Walter and Calvin, and one sister, Mrs. Violet Lenhart, all of Latrobe RD 4. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in L. Boyd Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Route 711 Stahlstown. Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Bethel Lutheran Church, Latrobe RD 4, with the Rev. Joyce Lindh Moore and the Rev. E. Stewart Proper officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
