Born May 5, 1925, in Quincy, Mass., she was a daughter of the late William E. Kahler Sr. and Isabel (DeCoste) Kahler. Theresa was a member of St. Martin Church, New Derry, and its Rosary Altar Society. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed going to casinos. A true Pittsburgh sports fan, she loved following the Penguins, Steelers and Pirates. Theresa also enjoyed knitting, sewing, crochet and gardening. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Schmucker; two sons, Thomas William and Martin Joseph Schmucker; four brothers, William E. Jr., Michael, Joseph S. and Henry V. Kahler Sr.; and three sisters, Mary Purpura, Elizabeth "Betty" Aspinwall and Rose Eklund. Theresa is survived by four sons, James A. Schmucker, of Derry, Brian A. Schmucker and his wife Kathy, of Derry, Wayne E. Schmucker and his wife Tracy, of Blairsville, and Phillip M. Schmucker, of Derry; four daughters, Donna M. Levy and her husband Alan, of Alameda, Calif., Irene F. McFadden and her husband Kurt, of Pittsburgh, Linda A. Poliacek and her husband John, of Latrobe, and Cathy A. McKelvy and her husband Jay, of South Euclid, Ohio; one sister, Sister Florence Kahler, CSJ, of Brighton, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Bethlen Home for their excellent care and compassion. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Members of the St. Martin Rosary Altar Society will recite the Rosary at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin Church, New Derry, with the Rev. Salvatore Lamendola as celebrant. Everyone is asked to please go directly to church. Private interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery.
