Schott Jr., 97, of Latrobe, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at Loyalhanna Senior Suites. Born July 15, 1927, in Latrobe, he was the son of the late Joseph L. Schott Sr. and Mary Edna (Frye) Schott. Joseph was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, where he sang in the choir. A veteran of WWII, he served in the South Pacific with the U.S. Navy. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at Latrobe Steel with 35 years of service. For many years, he had been a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Society and sang with the Latrobe Community Chorus. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 515, Latrobe. Joseph enjoyed golfing and woodworking, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and enjoyed the many friendships he and his wife made in their 'Discussion Club.' Most of all, he will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Pauline (Ritenour) Schott; a son-in- law, Gene Nance; two brothers, Charles 'Ted' and Paul Schott; and six sisters, Marian Murray, Dorothy Murray, Marjorie Eltringham, Catherine Melago, Dora Jean Slivko, and Patricia Kistler. Joseph is survived by two sons, Joseph D. Schott and his wife, Connie, of Level Green and Jeffrey L. Schott and his wife, Rhonda, of Moneta, VA; three daughters, Deborah S. Nance of Harrison City, Kathleen A. Catanzarite and her husband, Jake, of Millsboro, DE, and Christine M. Quidetto and her husband, Dave, of Latrobe; nine grandchildren, Courtney Massey (Jason), Aaron Nance (Megan), Justine Sowers (Chris), Tyler Schott (Ashley), Jordan Nance (Sarah), Joel Schott (Sara), Hannah Catalfu (Craig), Zack Quidetto (Paula), and Haley Shannon (Nick); and ten great-grandchildren, Logan, Parker, Lincoln, Kennedy, Olivia, Caden, Cash, Wayland, Cheyenne, and Sofia. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. The Sacred Heart Rosary Altar Society will recite the Rosary at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, in the funeral home. Military services will be conducted at 10:15 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home, by the Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, at Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, with the Rev. James Podlesny, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Latrobe. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Church, 220 St. Cecilia Road, Latrobe, PA 15650.
