Latrobe Bulletin Wed, Feb 14, 1917 
Alexander Serena, aged 85 years, nine months and nine days, died at 3:40
o'clock, this morning, from hardening of the arteries, his death occurring at
the residence of Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Blair, where he had made his home since last
July. He was Mrs. Blair's uncle. He had been in ill health for five years or
more and had been confined to his bed for the last six months. He was married to
the only sister of the late John Nichols, who was Mrs. Blair’s father. Mrs.
Serena died August 12th, 1912. Mr. Serena was born in Pennsylvania, but when a
young man went to California, as a gold miner, returning In 1860 to resume
farming in Derry township. He continued to farm until his health gave way. He
was a member of the Derry Presbyterian church, and was respected by all who knew
him. Funeral services in charge of the Rev. George C. Fisher, will be held at
the Blair residence, on Friday afternoon, at two o'clock, followed by interment
in the John Nichols' lot, in Unity cemetery.
