Run Down by an Accommodation Train at Derry. Cyrus S. Shaffer, a well known freight conductor on the Pittsburg division of the Pennsylvania railroad was run down by Altoona accommodation at 7 o'clock yesterday morning at Derry, and instantly killed. His train had been sidetracked at Derry to allow the passenger train to pass. Conductor Shaffer stepped from his cabin to go to the dispatcher's office. Just as he alighted, the passenger train came along and before he could get off the track he was struck and hurled some distance. He was dead when picked up. The unfortunate man was 50 years old and resided at Derry. He leaves a wife and six children. Morning Tribune, Saturday, March 3, 1900
