Sherer, 80, of Latrobe, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born June 12, 1922, in Unity Township, a son of the late Clarence Sherer and Estella (Kuhns) Sherer Marshall. Prior to retirement in 1972, Eugene was employed by Standard Steel in Latrobe for over 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Army's Ninth Armored Division in the European Theater, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was a charter member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Latrobe, and a 46-year member of the American Legion. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting and golf. Eugene was a loving and responsible husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elaine (Campbell) Sherer; his son, Edward E. Sherer of Latrobe; his daughter, Diane Sherer Snair and her husband, Ray A., of Erie; five grandchildren, Michele Sherer Aston, Chris Ann Sherer, Matthew E. Sherer, Stacy Snair Sceiford and Susan Snair; his brother, Lawrence 'Hap' Sherer and his wife, Yvonne, of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1325 Mission Road, Latrobe, with the Rev. James E. Person officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Youngstown, Pa. Military services will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
