Virginia M. Harr Shirey, 83, of Greensburg (Unity Township) died Wednesday,
April 22, 1998, In Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Nov. 3, 1914, in Whitney,
a daughter of the late Logan J. Harr, Sr. and Mary Jane Poorman Harr. Prior to
her retirement, she worked as a cook at Mountain View Inn. She was a member of
the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in West Point. In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence F. Shirey, and four brothers,
Regis, Kenneth, Frank and Floyd Harr. She is survived by two sons, Thomas J.
(and his wife, Anna) of Latrobe and Roger C. Shirey (and his wife, Carolyn) of
Greensburg RD 2; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers,
Logan J. of Latrobe RD 3, George M. of Whitney and Walter C. Harr of Lancaster,
Calif.; two sisters, Mary Murphy of New Alexandria and Eileen Zurick of Darien,
Ill., and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 3 to 9
p.m. Friday in Gaut-Bacha Funeral Home Inc., Pleasant Unity. Funeral service
will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, West
Point, with the Rev. David H. Clement officiating. Interment will follow in
Hillview Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
