Calvin S. Shirey, 75, of Latrobe died Monday, July 19, 1999, in St. Anne Home,
Greensburg, after a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 28, 1923, in Latrobe, a
son of the late John F. Sr. and Ruth (Berkey) Shirey. A member of Sacred Heart
Church, Youngstown, he was retired from Allegheny Power Co., Latrobe, and was a
veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his
parents, he was predeceased by a son-in-law, Charles D. McNamara Sr.; a brother,
Berkey, and a sister, Naomi Shirey. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Konkoly
Shirey; two daughters, Sandra McNamara of Sewickley and Debra Balotsky (and her
husband, Robert) of Newtown; a brother, John F. Jr. of Ligonier; two sisters,
Ina Nichols of Latrobe RD 3 and Tina Glecki of El Cajon, Calif., and five
grandchildren, Charles D. McNamara Jr., Meredith McNamara, Breton McNamara,
Kristen Balotsky and Robert Balotsky Jr. Friends will be received from 7 to 9
p.m. Thursday and 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in John J. Lopatich Funeral Home
Inc., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday
in Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, by the Rev. Chad Ficorlill, OSB. Interment
will be in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to St. Anne Home, 685 Angela Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601. Sacred
Heart Rosary Altar Society will recite the rosary at 2:30 p.m. Friday In the
funeral home. Military service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Saturday in the
funeral home.
