John Shirey Of Youngstown Dead 
John Shirey, one of the pioneer residents of Youngstown, died at two o'clock
yesterday morning, at the Shirey homestead, where he was born and had lived all
of his life. He was 78 years, two months and 17 days of age. Only two other
residents have lived in Youngstown for a longer period of time than Mr. Shirey
did. He was a farmer. He was the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth Shirey. In
1877 he was married to Miss Sarah Armel, who survives her husband. together with
the following children: Miss Elisabeth, at home; Mrs. Leo Hughes, of Oakmont;
Mrs. Emory Shirey, of Hostetter; Mrs. Edward Poche, Mrs. E. E. Smith and John F.
Shirey, all of Youngstown. Another child died a number of years ago. He is also
survived by one brother, Daniel C. Shirey, of Youngstown. Funeral services will
be held at the Lutheran church, of which he was a member, at 10:30 o'clock,
tomorrow morning. in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Henry Voegtly. Interment
will be made in the Youngstown cemetery.
