Shirey, 89, of Bethlen Home, Ligonier, (formerly of Fairfield Township) died Monday, Oct. 3, 1983, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born Aug. 11, 1894, in Unity Township, he was a son of the late George A. and Laura Smith Shirey. A retired coke yard foreman for the Atlantic Co., he was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ligonier, the IOOF, where he had been a member for 66 years, and the F and AM of Latrobe. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estella Sue Shirey. Surviving are two sons, William A. of Bolivar RD 1 and Glenn R. of Ligonier; three daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Pershing of Ligonier RD 1, Mrs. Charlotte Morrow of Ligonier and Mrs. Mary Jane Fulcomer of Bolivar RD 1; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jacob C. of Latrobe, and four sisters, Edna Melshon of Latrobe, Pauline Harr of Pleasant Unity, Mabel Musick of Latrobe and Ruth Hauser of Youngstown. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Wolford-McCracken Funeral Home, 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William M. Oesterlin officiating. Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley Cemetery. IOOF 541 will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
