Veteran Of First World War Dies
William R. Singer, aged 67 years, three months and four days, of Latrobe, and
employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad for the past 33 years, died yesterday
morning at 1:30 o'clock at his home in the Ober Apartments as a result of a
lingering illness. A veteran of the first World War, the late Mr. Singer was a
member of the Latrobe American Legion, Thomas B. Anderson Post 516 and the Derry
Veterans of Foreign Wars. A military funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon
at 3 o'clock from the Gosnell Funeral Home with the Rev. C. A. Hartwig, pastor
of the Latrobe Methodist church and the Rev. Harvey Black, American Legion
chaplain, in charge. Three members of the local American Legion and three from
the Derry Veterans of Foreign Wars, will act as pall bearers. Interment will be
made In Unity cemetery. All members of the American Legion are requested to meet
at the Legion Home this evening at 8:30 o'clock to go in a body to the Gosnell
Funeral Home to pay their respects to a comrade. On Wednesday afternoon, the
local Legionnaires and Derry V. F. W. members will meet at the Legion Home at
1:15 o'clock. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lula Singer and one daughter, Mrs.
William Taylor. of Wilmington, Del. Also surviving are three brothers, Robert M.
Singer, of Latrobe; Harry R. Singer. of Derry; Albert Singer, of Bolivar; one
sister, Mrs. Bertha Hopper, of Canton, O., and one nephew and eight nieces.
