"Herky" Skillings, 55, of Irwin RD 3 (Herminie No. 2), died Wednesday, May 30, 1990, at home. He was born June 30, 1934, in Latrobe, a son of the late Japan and Elizabeth Jones Skillings. He was a member of St. Mark AME Zion Church of Jeannette. A veteran of the Korean conflict, having served in the U.S. Army, he was a member of the Greensburg American Legion Post 318. He was employed by the Port Authority of Allegheny County as an incline repairman for the Monongahela Incline. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelly Skillings; five brothers, Joseph, Merzone, Willie, Johnny and Adam, and four sisters, Eva Bostick, Lillian Marie Skillings, Sara Jane Skillings and Katie Lee Skillings. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Speed Skillings; three sons, Kim C. of Greensburg, Dwayne R., at home, and Bryon Skillings in Connecticut; two brothers, Fred of Canton, Ohio, and Robert Skillings of Jeannette; two sisters, Mrs. William (Ella Mae) Arrington of Greensburg and Mrs. Gladys Louise Dukes of Brenizer; two grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m Friday in Joseph W. Nickels Funeral Home Inc., Herminie. Additional visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday in St. Mark AME Zion Church, Jeannette. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Luther Johnson officiating. Interment with military rites will be in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
