(Ebensburg, Pa.) 1867-1938: October 27, 1870 On Saturday, Mr. J. S. Spielman, Pittsburg Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad, met with an accident at Derry Station which resulted with his almost instant death. It appears that the deceased was assisting in coupling some cars in a quarry at Derry, and at the time of the accident, was standing on the outside of a sharp curve on the road leading to the main track. When the engine backed, Mr. S. was struck on the head by a bolt projecting from the end of the car. The bolt penetrated the left temple and crashed through the skull. The engine was stopped immediately, and attachees ran to the injured man's assistance. Medical aid was summoned but was too late, as Mr. Spielman died almost instantly. The deceased was about thirty-eight years of age and resided at Derry Station where he leaves a wife and six children. He has been connected with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company for about sixteen years as engineer, road foreman of engines, and for some time past, has had the position of Train Master. His father resides at Altoona, and is a worthy and highly respected citizen - Pittsburg Post File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/westmoreland/obits/s/spielman17895gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
