He was born May 10, 1915, in Trauger, son of the late Vasil and Caroline Stegena Spirko. He was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church of Trauger, Jednota Lodge Branch 181 of United, St. Vincent Senior Citizens, FOE Aerie 01188 of Latrobe and Hecla Sportsmen; a veteran of World War II; retired employee of the Dill Construction Co. of Latrobe, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Michael, and one sister, Helen Spirko. Surviving are his wife, Verna Koval Spirko; one daughter, Mrs. John (Joanne) Boggess of Greensburg; one son, Joseph R. of Latrobe; one brother, Stephen of Humphreys; three sisters, Ann Spirko and Margaret Spirko, both of Humphreys, and Mrs. John (Mary) Donnelly of Irwin, and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Jay A. Hoffer Funeral Home, Norvelt. Parastas service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Panachida service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday followed by Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church of Trauger with the Rev. Edward C. Pyo Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.
