Donald H. Washnock, 85, of Whitney, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, in Select Specialty
Hospital, Latrobe. He was born April 10, 1923, in Whitney, a son of the late John
and Augusta (Houck) Washnock. Prior to retirement, he was self-employed at Whitney
Manufacturing Inc., and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St.
Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, and American Legion Post 515, Latrobe. In addition
to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul J., John "Jack" and
Michael H. Washnock; and three sisters, Mae Washnock, Ann Bridge and Henrietta
Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia (Hvizdos) Washnock; four sons, John
"Jack," at home, Donald R. and wife, Margie, of Whitney, James E., of Whitney, and
Robert J. Washnock, of Royal Oak, Mich.; two daughters, Joanne Washnock, of Whitney,
and Donna M. Vasinko and husband, Mark, of Acme; 12 grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; two brothers, William and wife, Trudy, of Latrobe, and Thomas
Washnock and wife, Dixie, of Whitney; two sisters, Freda Nehls and Betty Marks, both
of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be private. A
funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Cecilia Catholic Church,
Whitney, with the Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, as celebrant. Private interment
