Wilt Veteran, Ex-Publisher Of Tribune-Review Richard W. Wilt, 94, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at his home near Latrobe. A lifelong resident of the area, he received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Business. During World War II he served in the South Pacific, was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines and was with the first troops to occupy Japan. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars for combat action and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star for combat action. Mr. Wilt was formerly president and publisher of the Greensburg Tribune-Review. During that time he served on the founding board of trustees of Westmoreland County Community College, the advisory board of Mellon Bank, Barclay Office, Greensburg, board of directors of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association, Greensburg Library board, Rotary Club of Greensburg, Greensburg Salvation Army board, president of Westmoreland County Heart Association and vice president of Pennsylvania Associated Press Association. He was active with Westmoreland County 4-H and raising and showing quarter horses. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Kathryn Edwards Wilt; his daughter, Kathryn (Katy) Steele; son, Dr. Richard Wilt Jr.; four grandchildren, Kara O'Con-nor, William E. (Wes) Steele, P.E., Anna Kristina Mangione and Anthony Edwards Wilt; eight great-grandchildren, Casey O'Connor, Asher O'Connor, Kirsten O'Connor, Dylan Steele, Brody Steele, Jonathan Mangione, Lillie Mangione and Malana Cash, and his sister, Barbara Reiner. A private family viewing was held at Frederick Funeral Home Inc., Latrobe. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, in Covenant Presbyterian Church, 200 N. Market St., Ligonier, PA 15658, followed by a private burial.
