Wingert, Aged 42, Hurt in Crown Sheet Let-Go at Lilly, Dies Charles A. Wingert, aged 42, of Youngwood, the Pennsy freight engineer who was terribly burned by the bursting of a plug from a locomotive crown sheet last Tuesday morning near Lilly, died at 6:28 last evening in the Altoona hospital. Wingert suffered first and second degree burns and scalds of the face and arms, back and legs. He was conscious to the last. His wife, who came here the same day the accident occurred, remained with him until death came. Olla F. Freeman, of Greensburg, Wingert's fireman, also badly injured in the same mishap, with Clement Davidson, of Youngwood, a brakeman, was discharged from the hospital yesterday and went home. Davidson continues to improve. Wingert was admitted to the institution several hours after the accident. He showed wonderful stamina and pluck, despite the intensity of his suffering. He had been employed on the Pittsburg division many years. Funeral Directors Lafferty & Tobias prepared the body for burial and it will be taken to Youngwood today. Charles A. Wingert was the son of Philip and Catherine Wingert and was born August 12, 1875. The parents survive, with his wife, Mrs. Mary Winger, and five children: Ronald, Louise, Arthur, Celia and Robley, all at home. Five brothers - Clark, Albert, Ira and Clarence - all of Greensburg, and Thomas, Uniontown, survive also with a sister, Mrs. Minnie Rush, Pleasant Unity, Pa. Wingert was a member of Youngwood Lutheran church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Enginemen. The funeral will be held at his late home.
