Young., (Bob), 61, of Somers Point, died at home on Tuesday, February 15, 2000, after losing a battle with cancer caused in part by smoking. He was born in Latrobe, PA, where he was raised in the family floral business. After working the summer season at the shore, he got "sand in his shoes" and moved here in the late fifties. He worked at the Marlboro Blenheim as a waiter, bartender, and built and designed their floats for the Miss America Parade. During this time, he wintered in Florida, working at the Bellevue Biltmore in Bel Aire, where he designed nightclub stages. A career move was made to Zaberers Restaurant on the Black Horse Pike where he was Front of the House Manager, and was in charge of all catering and banquet functions for 15 years. Leaving Zaberers, he changed careers again, moving from roast beef to roses, and returned to the floral industry in this area. In 1987, following participation in a Master Class with European designers in Vienna, the American Institute of Floral Designers certified him in floral design. He was the current president of the Northeast Region of AIFD; he chaired their national awards committee and their national symposium in Boston in 1998. He was past chair of the FTD Local District. Bob was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church in Absecon, where he had served as President of Council. Mr. Young was active in many local events, giving his time and talent generously; he participated in lecture series held in The Ruth Neuman Shapiro Showhouse, Manna, South Jersey Aids Alliance, his presence was very much a part of Atlantic City. His most recent enterprise was "Floral Events" in Linwood, where he created floral decor for parties, weddings and casino work. Hundreds of area brides have walked down the aisle carrying his signature bouquets. His mother, Mary and his father, Louis, predeceased Mr. Young. His sister, Aletha is at home. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Friday, February 18, 7-9 PM at Jeffries & Keates Funeral Home, Tilton Rd & Infield Ave., Northfield. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 11AM at the Grace Lutheran Church, 11 E. Dawes Avenue, Somers Point. Burial private. The family requests that floral donations be of red carnations.
