Zimmerman, of Greensburg, aged 25 years and single, succumbed last Friday to the terrible burns sustained in an explosion of fire damp in the mines of the Pittsburg Coal company at Brownsville From the day of the explosion, Dec. 3, his burns were considered fatal. When Company I was recruiting for the Philippines, he enlisted and served throughout the campaign. Upon the return of the Tenth Regiment he entered the service of the Pittsburg Coal company as bookkeeper and assistant engineer. In company with a party of three he entered an abandoned portion of the mine December 3, and fire damp had collected and ignited causing a terrible explosion and severely burning the men. Engineers Crosby and Heath died Monday of last week. The funeral services were held last Sunday in the First Lutheran church, Greensburg. Many of the members of Company I were present and he was buried with the honors of war.
