All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ Contributed by: Donald Buncie donaldbuncie@yahoo.com October 2021 1845 The Will of Isaac Hughes (1572) I, Isaac Hughes, of the Township of Derry, in the County of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, being weak and infirm in body but of sound mind and memory, do make and publish this, my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made. And first I direct that my body be decently intered. And that my funeral be conducted corresponding with my estate and situation in life. And as to such worldly goods as it has pleased God to interest me with, I dispose of as follows: First, I direct that all my debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon as possible after my decease, out of the first moneys that shall come into the hands of my Executors from any portion of my estate. I also direct that a fair valuation od appraisment be made by two Judicious neighbors of all my personal property including my household furniture (except such as I have already given to some of my children) and, after signing their names to the same, that a copy shall be given to each of my Executors. And after my lawful debts and funeral expenses are paid, I will that the balance of the said personal property be divided amongst - My wife Jane and her three sons viz. Alexander, David and James share and share alike, and she remains my widow. I also give and bequeath unto my sons William and Thomas, as their full share of my estate, real and personal, the land which I released to them in Armstrong county. I also give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary, the children of my daughter Margaret, my daughters Jane, Rachel and Lavina, five dollars each to be paid by my sons Isaac and John. I also give and bequeath unto my son Isaac twenty acres of land adjoining John Welch, heirs of Thomas Culbertson and James McGuire including his improvement on the same. I also give and bequeath unto my three sons Alexander, David and James, all my land not already bequeathed (supposed to be three hundred and ten acres to be equally divided, share and share alike, to them, their heirs and assigns. And if any of my last mentioned three sons die without issue, then I will that his or their share or shares be given to the survivors or survivor of said three viz. Alexander, David and James. And I also will that my beloved wife Jane be comfortably supported by my said three sons, have a horse well kept and herself well supplied with all the necessaries of life, food, clothing, fuel etc., and a comfortable house as long as she remains my widow. And the share of my estate thus bequeathed to my wife to be in lieu of her Dower at common law, if she shall so elect. And I do hereby make and ordain Samuel Barnett and my wife Jane Hughes Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof, I, Isaac Hughes, the testator, have to this my Will written on one sheet of paper, set my hand and seal, the twenty-eighth day of August in the year of our Lord, one thousand, eight hundred and forty-four.
