In the name of God, Amen. I, James Beatty, late of West Newton in the Township of South Huntingdon, County of Westmoreland, and state of Pennsylvania, being sick and weak in body, but sound in mind, memory, and inderstanding, considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be better prepared to leave this world when it shall please Almighty God to call me home. I do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say: First and principally, I commit my soul unto the hands of Almighty God, and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the direction of my executors herein after mentioned. And after my just debts and funeral expenses are paid, the remainder of my estate to be divided as shall be hereinafter mentioned I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Dorcas, the one third of all my estate, agreeable to the laws of Pennsylvania, except such articles as shall be here after to be particularly bequethed to certain persons, of which her bed and bedding and trundle is part which my will and desire is that my executors give her without taking any amount to have appraised. And further my will and desire is that my wearing apparrel be equally divided among my children. and my riding whip to be kept by my execitors for my son Williamson until he arrives to the years of manhood, and neither of them to be appraised. I will and bequeath to my four children, namely Williamson, Marissa, Margaret, and James, the remainder two thirds of my estate, except my saddle. My will and desire is that my personal property be sold by my executors as soon as convenuent after my decease. (except such articles as my widow shall desire to take at the evaluation laid on by the appraisers of my property), not to exceed her dividend and my childrens share of the anount to be disposed of for my children at the discretion of my executors Further, as soon as my executors can dispose of my real estate at a price they shall think proper or sufficient for it, to be sold by them, and the money apportioned as above. The whole of the legacies for my children to be kept for them until each one of them shall arise to his or her age of twenty one years, or day of marriage as first shall happen If one or more of my children should die before the age of twenty one or day of marriage, then their legacies to be divided among the surviving children. I will and bequest to my father, James Beatty, my saddle without being appraised or valued My will and desire is that my father, James Beatty, shall have the care of the education of my children, and that my widow live with him in such place as he shall provide if she thinks peoper to do so Lastly, I hereby constitute and appoint my father, James Beatty, of Washington County, and my friend, John C. Plumer of Westmoreland County my executors of this, my last will and testament, revoking all former wills by me made to be null and void. Ratifying this and no other to be my last will and testament, in testimony whereof I have herewith set my hand and affixes my seal this seventh day of October, Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred nineteen ( 1819) J.
