Wills: John Finley, 6 September 1813, South Huntingdon Twp, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Will Book 1:325 In the Name of God Amen I John Findley of the Township of South Huntingdon in the County of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, yeoman, being very sick and weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding Blessed by God for the same but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form following to wit - Principally and first of all I Commend my mortal soul into the hands of God who give it and my body to the Earth to be buried in a decent and Christain like manner at the Discretion of my Executors herein after Named and as to such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and dispose of the same in the following manner - to wit- I allow my Executors to sell my whole estate real and personal to the best advantage they can and after paying funeral expenses and all my just debts the balance I allow to be Equally Divided amongst all my Children always paying the eldest out of the first monies received after paying my just debts - the younger ones their shares to be put to interest until they are of age the interest to go towards maintaining and schooling them and providing the interest will not be sufficient a part of the principle must be taken for that use and whereas my daughter Jenny Robertson has got several articles some of which the price is not known I allow those articles to be valued by two honest men and the whole amount to go in part of her share - my son William I allow to be put to learn a trade such as he will choose my wearing apparel I allow to my two sons James and William and wearing apparel which my wife left to the use of my four youngest daughters and providing any of my children should die before they receive their shares I allow the decreased share to be equally divided among the survivors - and providing my land cannot be got sold to advantage for some time I allow my Executors to rent it until sold - and whereas there is a number of accounts in my Shop Book which was set down by different hands - any of them that is disputed by the persons whom they are against I allow them not be sued for - and lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my loving friends the Rev. William Swan and Andrew Finley of the Count aforesaid to be the Executors of this my will - hereby revoking all other wills legacies and bequests by me heretofore made and declaring this and no other to be my last will and testament - In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal the sixth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen.
