Transcribed by James K. Markle for use on the UsGenWeb Dec 1997. The Last Will and Testament of Joseph Lash of Sewickly Township Westmoreland County, in the name of God. I Joseph Lash considering the uncertainty of his mortal life, and being of sound mind and memory, (blessed be God for the same) do make an publish this my will and testament in the manner and form following, that is to say, I will and bequeath to my wife, Barbara, such portion of my household and kitchen furniture as she may think necessary for her own convenience, also the mansion house, and that part of the garden and stable now occupied by me, with free passage to and from the same, during her natural life, also two cows, and the one third of the grain raised on the farm, I now occupy, to be delivered in bushel and if that shall not be sufficient for her comfortable maintenance, then she is to draw a sufficiency from other moneys due me, also a sufficiency fruit for her own use. I will and bequeath to my daughter Anne, and William Mitchell, all my right title interest and claim of in and to the farm that she now resides on during her natural life, my interest in said farm being three fifths and at her decease, to be equally divided between her living children. Viz: Joseph, Mary, and Anne (by Zumbro). I will and bequeath to my son Christian, eight hundred dollars that I paid in the purchase of the land he now occupies. I will and direct my executors put to interest twenty hundred dollars of the first money received by them, and the interest to go for the support of my son David, and if the interest is not sufficient, to apply the principal and after his death, the surplus to be equally divided between my children then living. I will and bequeath to my son Joseph the eight hundred dollars I gave him to purchase land in Ohio. I will and bequeath to my three grand children, Barbara, Henry and Joseph Zumbro, children of my daughter Elizabeth, now deceased, two hundred dollars each, to be paid out of the last sales of the land I sold to their father Abraham Zumbro, now owned by George Gilbert. I will and bequeath to my son, Daniel, that part of the old farm I now lie on, the said Daniel to give to his mother, the one third of the grain in the bushel, raised on said farm, the corn to be stored and cribbed in good order, the said Daniel to haul his Mother's share o f the grain to Mill or market as she may desire, within four miles of the said farm, for which he is to be paid out of my estate. The said Daniel's mother to find the one third to the seed grain, and pay the one third of the taxes, the said Daniel to find hay, straw, and pasture for his mother's cows and at the decease of my wife, or sooner, all divided between my sons, Christian, Joseph, Cephas, Asa, and Daniel, and my daughter Anne, Anne's share to be divided into five shares, Anne to get two shares, and each of her children Viz: Joseph, Mary, and Anne one share each. I appoint my son Cephas to be agent for his mother, to transact her business, and see that she is properly provided for agreeable to the foregoing Will, I Will and direct that all my personal property be sold, except what I have willed to my wife, and that all my just debts and funeral expenses be fully paid. And lastly I appoint my two sons, Christian and Cephas, to be my Executors of this my last Will and Testament.
