All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/pafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Suzy Bettac bettacssl@juno.com August 17, 2016, 1:45 pm Source: Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania Will Book 1:139-140 Written: June 3, 1797 Recorded: July 24, 1797 Will of Garret Thomas, Deceased ----192 I Garret Thomas of Westmoreland County and State of Pennsylvania being now through the mercy of divine providence at this time fully possessed of my right mind and memory but calling to mind the mortality of nature and that it is appointed for all men once to die do make constitute and ordain this my last will & testament in manner & form following that is to say I do allow my body to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executors and the expense thereof and all my other just debts to be honstly paid out of my Estate. I leave to my well beloved Wife Mary Thomas in the following manner to be provided for her by my sons Barnard & Garret viz: she is to have a room in one of the houses now built struck off and made comfortably for her to live in she shall have her bed and bed clothes bed stead and such kitchen furniture as may be (Page 140) necessary for her to live comfortably they shall further provide for her yearly as follows sixteen bushels of wheat six pounds in money her choice of two milch cows them kept and fed for her and one hundred and fifty weightet of good meat, ten gallons of whiskey one row of apple trees at her choice yearly, and the Boys shall find her vessels to put the cider or cider royal in that may be made of the apples thereof they shall also sow water and break one quarter of an acre of flax yearly for her and shall have the priviledges of a Horse to ride if she desires it. I leave to my two sons Barnard and Garret the two tracks of land where I now live the stills and vessels thereunto belonging each one equal undivided half part of the whole together with all my furnishings utentials and other personal property, except such part thereof as is otherwise provided for in this my last Will in consideration of which they are however to pay each of my other Children as follows besides the provision made their Mother as above they are to pay unto my eldest Daughter Eve now married to John Weaver one hundred pounds in one year from the date of this Will and fifty pounds more in three years from this date. They are further to pay to my Daughter Margaret now married to Henry Furry in four years from this date fifty pounds she having already received one hundred pounds and they shall further pay to my sons John & Peter and to my Daughter Elizabeth now married to John Findley to each the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds upon demand and they shall pay to my Daughter Catherine now married to John Shovice the sum of one hundred pounds in one year from this date and fifty pounds more in five years from this date they shall further pay to my Daughter Barbara one hundred pounds in one year from this date if required by her but if not required or paid at that time they are to pay interest for the same from that date until until paid she giving them six months notice when she wishes to have it and one hundred pounds more in six years from this date and they are further to pay my Daughters Mary and Christina each one hundred in one year if required from this date and to each fifty pounds more in seven years from this date also to each of the last three girls two cows and a heifer two sheep two hogs nine bushels of wheat two ----[faded] pots a bed & bedclothes bedstead and chest the last mentioned three that is to say Barbara Mary and Christina shall each of them have a young mare as shall also Margaret the rest having already got theirs and if the lands now disputed with William Marshall be recovered to the Estate the two Boys Barnard and Garret shall pay to each of their Brothers and Sisters ten pounds and keep the land between them and I do hereby appoint my two sons John and Barnard my sole Executors of this my last will and testament, and all of my Estate real and personal given under my hand and seal this third day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand and seven hundred & ninety seven. He was born 31 Aug 1732 in Pleizenhausen, Kr. Simmern, Germany, the son of Johann Peter Thomas and his wife Anna Elizabeth. He immigrated on 1 Oct 1854 on the Ship Phoenix, first settling in Lancaster Co., PA. He was the brother in law to Jacob Muhleisen, who also settled in Westmoreland Co., PA.
