Newhouse Kelanic February 16, 2002 No. 950 Valentine Whitehead's Will "In the name of God Amen I Valentine Wisecope of North Huntington Township Westmoreland County being in my usual State of Health mind and memory Blessed be God for the same but considering my advanced State of life and the uncertainty of all human affairs I do think it right and proper to make this my last will and Testament in manner following to Wit. I direct that my body may be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the discretion of my friends and executors hereinafter named as to my Worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same in the following manner, To my well beloved wife Mary I will and direct that she may have a Room in my dwelling house her bed and bedding Sufficient furniture for said room her choice of my cows, 3 or four sheep of which she is to have her choice Fire wood ready cut and all other necessarries for her comfortable support She is to have her cow and sheep pastured in Summer and well wintered and I do hereby charge my executors that she may be well supplied with all necessary comforts of life during her lifetime of which they or the surviver of them are to be the Judges. I give and bequeath to my son Peter one hundred and fifty nine acres neat measure excluding my dwelling house and barn to be laid off at the direction and discretion of my Executors and I do charge the same with the keeping and Support hereby granted to my Wife and Do hereby bind it and every part thereof for the same. I will and direct that all the residue of my Estate real and Personal except my large Bible may be sold by my Executors the Personal property as soon as convient after my decease and the Real estate as soon as they may think it most advantageous for my heirs and after paying my funeral expenses and all my just debts the proceeds thereof direct my Executors to distribute as follows To wit To my daughter Christina Ten dollars To my son Valentine the large Bible aforesaid and thirty dollars the remainder to be divided in equal shares as followeth my Son Christopher's children one Share my son in law Daniel Lincibiglers children one share. My son in law Abrahim Weaver 's one share my Daughter Elizabeth Milisons children one share My daughter Martha Smith one share My daughter Mary Weaver one share My daughter Catharine Botts one share and my daughter Sarah Hill one share and I do hereby leave it optional with my Wife Mary to take the provision I have made for her or to take lawfull Share of my estate and I do hereby empower my Executors hereby named When they sell my Real estate hereby directed to be sold to make a complete Title for the same as amply and fully as I could in my lifetime and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint My son Peter Wisecope and my Friend James Irwin of North Huntington Township to be my Executors to this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke and make null and void any other Will by me heretofore made in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the eighth day of April one thousand eight hundred and seventeen" "Signed sealed and acknowledge as his last will and Testament before us Peter Konkle, Sebastian Konkle" [signature] "Valentine Wisecope " "I the within Valentine Wisecope do think right and proper to make this codicil to my last will and Testament whereas by my will I have bequeathed to my son Peter Wisecope one hundred and fifty nine acres to be laid off as therein mentioned and the remainder of my Plantation I directed and empowered My Executors to sell at their discretion now I do hereby revoke and make null and void the foregoing Item of my said Will as far as respects the remainder of residue of my Plantation and I do hereby will and bequeath the said residue of my Plantation to my grandson Adam Wisecope Son of my Son Stophel Wisecope but is my will and I do hereby direct that my son Stophel and his wife Susannah shall have and occupy the said Piece of land and Premises as they now do and have done during their lives and I do also Will and direct that my said Grandson Adam Wisecope shall pay to my executors or the, or the survivor of them one hundred dollars in five annual payments after my decease. The testator, however, uses the name "Wisecope" within the will. The explanation is: The testator's German name is "Weisskoph", which has a crude phonetic pronunciation as "Wisecope". Weisskoph translates from the German to "Whitehead"]
