October 16, 1867 Suicide by Hanging Mr. John L. Britton of Falls, in this county, committed suicide by hanging himself in his barn on the morning of the 8th inst. No cause is assigned for this act except insanity, which has for a few months past, been painfully apparent at times to his family - so much so as to make watchfulness on their part necessary. When found by his daughter he was suspended from a beam by a leathern strap about the neck - strangled to death. The fall had not been sufficient to dislocate the neck. The deceased was a well-to-do farmer, about 65 years of age. Had been for many years a member of the Methodist church. Was highly respected by all as a mild, truthful and charitable man.
