Susquehanna County Independent from Jan. 18 to Jan. 24, 2012
Elna M. Nordahl, age 88, of Luther Acres, Lititz, formerly of Nicholson, passed
away at Hospice of Lancaster County on January 12, 2012. She was the wife of
Edwin Nordahl. Elna was born in Hop Bottom, on January 7, 1924. She was a long
time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Nicholson, the Lackawanna and
Wyoming County Presbyteries, and Presbyterian Women. She was very active in the
church and was an elder for many years.
Elna worked at the Bendix Corporation in South Montrose and retired from there
in 1979. After retirement she worked as a volunteer in many capacities which
included the URS of Wyoming County, the Laubach Literacy Program and Tyler
Memorial Hospital. She was honored at the White House and received the
Presidential Award for her work in the Laubach Literacy Program.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryll Nordahl Wilcox of Newmanstown; and her
son Edwin H. Nordahl II of Hamburg. She is also survived by five grandchildren;
and six great-grandchildren.
A visitation and memorial service will be held in the First Presbyterian Church
of Nicholson on Sunday, January 22, 2012 starting at 2 p.m.
Donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Nicholson or Hospice
of Lancaster County.
