BAIR, cigar manufacturer, of Hanover, was born at that place July 18, 1831. He is a son of John and Julia (Snyder) Bair, of York County. His father was a tanner by trade, and followed it through life. Jacob E. received a good common school education, and assisted his father in the tanning business until 1848, when he began the manufacture of cigars at Hanover, which occupation he has followed since. He owns quite an extensive cigar manufactory, and is assisted by his sons. Most of the time he employs quite a number of hands. July 3, 1855, he was married to Catherine Grim, daughter of Henry D. and Elizabeth Grim, of Virginia, and has had eight children: Julia A., John H., Cecilia and Edmonia (twins, the latter deceased), John J. C., Howard E., Jacob H. and Robert L. Mr. and Mrs. Bair are members of the Reformed Church.
