Battey Publishing Co., 1886. _______________________________________________ Part II, Biographical Sketches, Jackson Township, Pg 118 EDWARD GLATFELTER, superintendent of Spring Grove Paper Mills, is a son of Charles and Louisa (Fishel) Glatfelter, and was born in 1839, in Spring Garden Township. He was reared on a farm, and until twenty-five years of age, remained upon the farm as an assistant of his father. He then operated the old homestead farm for a period of nine years for himself, after which he became the general agent of the Weed Sewing Machine Company, for York and Adams Counties, continuing this business two years. He then removed to Spring Grove, and entered the employ of his brother in the paper-mills as laborer. In 1879 he became the superintendent of the mills, which position he has ably filled up to the present writing. In 1863 he was united in marriage with Sarah A. Herman, a native of West Manchester Township. This union has been blessed with five children: Laura Z., Harvey E., Lucy K., Nettie J. and Sadie E. Mr. and Mrs. Glatfelter, with their two eldest children, are members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
