GLATFELTER, merchant at Starview, was born in New Salem, North Codorus Township, December 23, 1860, and is a son of Franklin and Rebecca (Smith) Glatfelter, of German and Swiss descent, respectively. He remained with his father on the farm until the age of fourteen, when he entered the employ of Eli Goodling as clerk in his store. He next attended school one winter, and then became a clerk for Mr. Whitman and others of York, in the store business. In 1881 he began business for himself as a merchant in Dover Township, and in 1884 moved to Starview, where he is now conducting a store of general merchandise, and since locating there has been postmaster of the village. Mr. Glatfelter was married, August 14, 1881, to Jennie E. Hake, daughter of Frederick Hake. They had two children. One, named William Jacob, died in infancy. The name of the second child is Charles Walter. Mr. Glatfelter is a member of the Lutheran Church.
