HURSH, a lineal descendant, was elected a member of the house of representatives of Pennsylvania from York County in 1868, and re-elected the following year. He was born February 6, 1835, in Fairview Township, and was brought up on his father’s farm. At the age of sixteen he attended the Cumberland Valley Institute, after which he made the study of medicine his choice, and having attended the regular course of lectures in Jefferson Medical College, at Philadelphia, he graduated in that institution March 7, 1857. He has since been continuously engaged in the active duties of his profession, until the spring of 1884, when he began to devote a part of his time to the delightful and healthful pursuits of agriculture on his farm in Fairview Township, York County.
