Battey Publishing Co., 1886. _______________________________________________ Part II, Biographical Sketches, York Township, Pg 204 SAMUEL PIUS ILYES, son of John and Elizabeth (Hess) Ilyes, was born in 1857, in York Township, on the homestead farm where he has always resided. There were eight children in his father’s family: George (deceased), John, Jeremiah (deceased), Eliza (deceased), Louisa (deceased), Ellen, Aaron and Samuel. Aaron married Jane Day, daughter of Jesse Day, and John married Mary Hovis, daughter of Isaac Hovis. Our subject’s parents are of German extraction, who, by hard labor and strict economy have been enable to secure a competency. They own a farm of 200 acres of the best land in York Township, well stocked, cultivated and improved. The Ilyes family are members of the Lutheran Church.
