Battey Publishing Co., 1886. _______________________________________________ Part II, Biographical Sketches, Monaghan Township, Pg 148 HENRY KIMMEL was born September 1, 1826, to John and Susannah (Wonders) Kimmel, in Washington Township, and is the second of three children: Leah, Henry and John. The grandfathers of subject, David Kimmel and Henry Wonders, were natives of York County and both farmers. John Kimmel, subject’s father, was born in Washington Township in 1793, and was the owner of two farms, and died in 1853. Our subject, at the age of twenty-five, began farming on his own account in Monaghan Township and at the death of his father fell heir to a fine piece of property of eighty-three acres, well improved with building, etc. In 1850 he married Mary M., daughter of Peter and Lydia (Crone) Ference, of York County. The six children born to this union were named as follows: Lydia A. (Ferry), Susan (Sutton), Sarah J. (Frysinger), John (deceased), Leah C. (deceased), and Alice (Myers). Mr. Kimmel has held a number of local offices, and with his wife is a member of the Church of God.
