METZGER, secretary and general passenger agent of the York & Peach Bottom Railway, is a native of Yocumtown, Penn., born November 26, 1852, a son of William B. and Emma G. (Ginder) Metzger. He is of German descent and is a representative of one of the old families of York County. His father was born in this county in 1828. In 1871 subject began studying telegraphy and for some time continued as an operator. In 1874 he graduated at Eastman's Business College, at Poughkeepsie, N. Y., and for four years afterward was book-keeper for Elcock, Metzger & Co. In 1878, in partnership with his father, he engaged in the boot and shoe business, at Dillsburg, and continued until 1881. In 1879 he was elected clerk of the commissioners of York County, being the first Republican ever elected to that office in this county. His term of office expired in 1882, and that same year he accepted his present position. His marriage took place in 1876 to Maggie Kister, of Goldsboro, Penn. They have one child, Pearl.
