SAMUEL MYERS was born in Monaghan Township, July 3, 1820, and is of German and 
English descent.  He was reared a farmer and, in 1843, began on his own account.  
January 2, 1845, he married Leah, daughter of John Kimmel, of Monaghan Township, 
and of German descent.  The children born to this union were John A., November 6, 
1845; Elmira Jane, May 14, 1847, died March 2, 1851; Susan, May 28, 1849; Samuel 
W., November 16, 1851; Henry W., March 15, 18553; Solomon B., December 3, 1854; 
George E., October 22, 1856; David D., February 15, 1858; Elizabeth E., December 
22, 1859; Daniel E., June 24, 1862, died March 14, 1863; Charles L., November 6, 
1864.  Our subject has been a member of the Bethel Church at Mt. Pleasant since 
1844, and for over thirty years an elder; for twenty-five or thirty years he has 
been superintendent of the Union Sunday-school, and for about twelve years was 
superintendent of the Myers’ Sunday-school; he organized the first Sunday-school 
convention in the upper end of the township and for a year acted as president; he 
served as supervisor for several years, and for seven years was a member of the 
Warrington Rangers, as orderly, having been honorably discharged in 1843.  He 
assisted at the revival meeting at the Marshall farm near Wellsville in 1844, and 
was the first young man to make a public prayer in that neighborhood.
