He married Catherine Klinefelter, daughter of George and Elizabeth (Diehl) Klinefelter. Five children have blessed this marriage: Rebecca, Elizabeth, George, Catherine and Jacob. Mr. Shaffer has resided at his present home for the last forty years. His farm contains 164 acres of excellent land, about forty acres of woodland. In 1862 he build the Shaffer grist-mill, which has been in operation continuously ever since John Shaffer, our subject’s father, attained the ripe old age of eighty-two, when he died in Hopewell Township; his wife died in her fifty-eighth year. Mr. Shaffer is one of the leading members of Shaffer’s Church. He has been closely identified with this church since it was built, having aided largely by his means and time in its construction.
