JOHN K. SHAFFER, a son of John and Polly (Kerr) Shaffer, was born in Heidelberg Township, July 6, 1829.  His ancestors were among the early settlers of York County.  His grandfather, John Shaffer, a native of York County, at the age of eighteen, was enrolled for service in the Revolutionary army.  He resided in the county all of his life, and died at the advanced age of ninety-five years.  The father of our subject lived in the county until his death, at the age of eighty years.  John K. was reared on a farm, and learned the trade of blacksmith from his father.  This occupation he has always followed in connection with farming.  He is a skillful and efficient workman, and for the past five years have conducted his business in the borough of Spring Grove.  Mr. Shaffer married Elizabeth Moul.  She is the daughter of Henry Moul, of Heidelberg, and also a descendant of an old family of the county.  The town of Moulsville (near Hanover), was settled by her ancestors.  Five children have blessed their union:  Martin, Jacob (deceased), Henry (deceased), Caroline Baker and Annie Kessler.
